General Requirements
The applying driver must:
- be at least 23 years old.
- have a Class A CDL with HazMat (H) or
combination (X) endorsement.
- have one year of verifiable
over-the-road driving within the past three years with a class A
CDL using the type of equipment similar to what you will be
operating at Landstar.
- have no more than two moving
violations within the past three years.
- have had no preventable accidents
within the past 12 months.
- have had no criminal convictions
within the past five years, and not more than one in your lifetime.
- not have any suspensions of your
license of more than 30 days during the last three years.
- be proficient enough in English to
understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official
inquiries, make entries on reports and records, and converse with
the public.
- have never tested positive for drug
or alcohol use while working for previous employers or lessee
carriers.
- have no record of refusal to take a
drug or alcohol test provided for by implied consent or similar
law.
Work References
Satisfactory references from the driver applicant's employers from
the three (3) years previous to the application. Any
"chargeable" or "preventable" accidents that are discovered in the
reference check, but don't appear on the MVR, will be counted as
accidents. Any discharge for a drug or alcohol offense will
disqualify the driver applicant from any further consideration.
Sister Carrier Transfers
Any driver applicant who was disqualified for safety violations
by another Landstar System, Inc. carrier will not be qualified by
any Landstar System, Inc. carrier. A driver disqualified for any
other reason by a Landstar carrier, who applies for qualification
by another Landstar carrier must have his/her qualification agreed
to by the disqualifying company President/General Manager before
being qualified. A sister company conversion may occur if a
complete file is obtained either via the sister company or through
a new application; a new drug test is taken; and there are no
outstanding debts with the carrier. Landstar Ranger has the right
to refuse to incur any outstanding debts by the applicant to the
sister company carrier.
Physical Examination
Completion of a physical examination by a DOT qualified medical
examiner recorded on a "long form" DOT Physical Examination Form,
showing that the driver applicant is medically qualified to operate
a commercial motor vehicle in accordance with 49CFR 391.41. The
physical examination must have been performed within twelve (12)
months of the driver applicant's application date and will be
verified for authenticity at the carrier's operation.
